Agartala, Mar 16: Mountaineer Aritra Roy of Agartala Adventure Club has embarked on his journey to Mount Everest, cycling from Tripura to Phaplu, Nepal, to advocate for a cleaner and greener environment.
On Saturday, Colonel Sahil Sharma, Commandant of the 35 Battalion of Assam Rifles, flagged off Roy’s 1,400 km cycling expedition from Agartala to Phaplu.
Roy, who has previously conquered Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Elbrus and reached Everest Base Camp in 2022, is undertaking this 15-day cycling journey before commencing his 45-day Everest expedition.

His past achievements, including summiting Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Europe’s tallest mountain, Mount Elbrus, underscore his mountaineering expertise and determination.
“I am from Tripura, and my first target is to climb Mount Everest. Nobody from Tripura has climbed Everest before. I have been engaged in various sporting activities, and only 500 people from India have achieved this feat. I appeal to the youth to participate in sports,” Roy said.
Expressing gratitude to the Assam Rifles and the Indian Army for their support in training, logistics, and mountaineering gear, Roy credited them for making his expedition possible.
Through this journey, he aims to inspire young people to embrace sports while raising awareness about the dangers of drug addiction.
