Tura, May 8: In yet another incident involving reckless driving by truckers, a Tura doctor heading for work in Williamnagar sustained injuries along with his driver when his SUV vehicle was rammed by a speeding truck this morning at Jengjal, 30 kms from Tura.
The incident occurred around 7:30 am, when the doctor, Dr Steve Marak, was on his way to Williamnagar from Tura. The doctor was provided with first aid at Jengjal PHC and has been taken to Tura Civil Hospital for further examination.
Dr Steve Marak and his driver has sustained injuries but is out of danger.
Police said that the truck was an oil tanker.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in a post in X said, “With frequent accident taking place in West Garo Hills district, especially with the regular movement of dumpers, because of ongoing construction works. I have asked DC to conduct awareness campaign on road safety with different stakeholders”.
