Tura, April 28: Tura Civil Hospital brought fame and laurel to Garo Hills by bagging the District Kayakalp Award given by the National Health Mission on Thursday.
The awards for hospitals and health centres was announced by the Meghalaya Government along with cash awards amounting to 50 lakh.
Moreover, another cash award of Rs 30 lakh was given to Tura Civil Hospital for getting the best Eco Friendly Award.
Another health centre in the rural area of Garo Hills, the Babadam Primary Health Centre in Rongram block run by private Bakdil NGO, belonging to Catholic Church, has also been selected as one of the best run primary health centres in the state. Bakdil NGO has been doing impressive work in the health sector of Garo Hills under the leadership of Father Sunny who has made the NGO a household name in Garo Hills and even in Shillong.
