TURA, 4 July: Tragedy has struck the well known Don Bosco College in Tura with one of its staff members being dragged into the strong water currents of the Pelga Dare falls leading to his drowning.
The victim, Albinus Tirkey, was one of the senior most bus operators of Don Bosco College. Taking advantage of the sunny weather on Sunday he decided to go fishing at the famous Pelga Dare waterfalls. It was while he was in the water that he got dragged in by the strong currents and disappeared.
As news of his disappearance reached authorities, police dispatched their divers to the spot along with state disaster rescue force personnel. They conducted an extensive search of the water body but failed to find him. The operation had to be called off on Sunday evening due to darkness falling.
A fresh search was conducted on Monday morning and shortly before noon the body was located in another area of the waterfall known as Danchi Wari. The body has been taken to Tura Civil Hospital for post mortem.
The Pelga Dare (Dare or falls) is a well known tourist spot visited by hundreds of people every week. During monsoon season the water level rises dangerously and cases of drowning have occurred annually in the waterfalls.
