Tura, Oct 31: The Tura Government College (TGC) hosted the 12th General Conference of the Meghalaya Government College Teachers’ Association (MGCTA) on Thursday at the TGC auditorium hall in Tura.
The event drew educators from various institutions across the state focused at fostering cordial collaboration among educators and tackling key educational challenges in the state. Representatives from Kiang Nongbah Government College, College of Teachers Education in Rongkon, Sohra Government College, Williamnagar Government College, Captain Williamson Memorial Government College in Baghmara, including the host college, Tura Government College, attended the event.
The primary objective of MGCTA is to ensure the well-being and welfare of government college teachers.
The conference aimed to address both the practical concerns of teachers and the educational needs of students, ensuring a comprehensive approach to improvement. The event is designed to foster understanding and collaboration among government college teachers from different institutions.
The MGCTA conference is held every two years to benefit the teachers’ association and promote well-being among government college teachers. The event typically spans two days, starting with the arrival and reception of delegates, followed by the main conference, which includes an inaugural session with guests and subsequent business sessions to address various concerns of the government college teachers’ welfare association.
The key topic of discussion at the conference were the importance of meeting the needs of students and ensuring their well-being, the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and review any grievances of the teachers.
The inaugural session saw a speech by Albish K. Sangma, Vice President of the Tura Unit, where he elaborated the objectives of the conference that looks to foster fairness and equity within the educational system.
Isaac W. Momin, Principal of Tura Government College, expressed his support for the association and shared his educational aspirations for Meghalaya, emphasising that it is a collective responsibility to adopt, innovate and foster environments that encourages critical thinking, creativity and inclusivity among the students and youths.
C.P. Marak, Rtd. IFS officer and Executive Chairman of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE), delivered an inspiring speech on the crucial role teachers play in shaping the future of Meghalaya. He highlighted the unity among different departments under the Education Department, comparing them to different corners of the same bus. He furthermore, stressed the collective responsibility to enhance the name and fame of the education department, emphasizing the importance of passing on knowledge and skills to students.
