TURA, Nov 23: A daily wage laborer working in Tura faced a mob fury in Tura Nakham bazar area on suspicion of being a child lifter compelling police to take him into custody on Wednesday afternoon.
The laborer, who hailed from Singimari area in the plan belt region of West Garo Hills, had reportedly given a child a piece of sweet which was objected to by some locals from the area.
The scene quickly turned tense as rumors of child lifting attempt began to do the rounds. He was roughed up and bound with ropes before police were called in.
“He was brought to the police station on suspicion of being a child lifter and detained. He clarified that he had given a sweet to a child. We checked his credentials and found he has been working as a laborer in the town and since there was no FIR we released him after sometime,” informed Tura police.
