Tura, March 8: A chilling murder was perpetrated inside a government office in the heart of Tura’s biggest weekly market- Nazing Bazar sometime during Sunday night when an unidentified person or persons murdered the Chowkidar inside the PWD office, a stone’s throw from the bustling shops.

The murder came to light only on Monday when government employees coming in to work on the first working day of the week found the chowkidar of the PWD (Roads) Mechanical Division lying dead in a pool of blood on the floor with lethal wounds to his head.

The chowkidar, Sapenson G Sangma, was found murdered inside the office, at the place where he always retired to sleep. The cold-blooded murder has shocked the entire Nazing bazaar locality which is usually brimming with activity well into the late hours of the night.

“Today at 9:15 AM our Araimile beat house received telephonic information from the office of PWD (R) Mechanical Division, that the Chowkidar who used to sleep at the office is found dead,” said West Garo Hills SP Dr. MGR Kumar.

Narrating the case, he said that the Araimile police Ih-Charge accompanied by staff conducted an enquiry and inquest and found the chowkidar with multiple head injuries and in a pool of blood, lying on the floor at the place where he always slept.

With every angle pointing to murder, police observed all necessary legal formalities and the body was sent for post mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death before handing the body over to the family members for the last rites.

“In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation should reveal, however, we will presume a case of homicide,” said SP Dr Kumar to media persons.
