Tura rape accused given conviction

Tura, July 7: Another rape accused man has been convicted by a court in Tura on July 4th after almost eight long years.

On 08th November 2014, an information was received at Tura Women PS that one Shri King Victor Ch. Marak @ Tengchu has sexually assaulted a minor girl in his residence. On receipt of information, a case was immediately registered vide Tura Women PS Case No. 58(11)2014 u/s 376(2)(i) IPC R/W Sec. 5(m)/6 POCSO Act, 2012 and investigation was entrusted to Woman Police Inspector Gorethy T. Sangma.

The investigation was done meticulously and the chargesheet was submitted on 1st August 2017. After completion of trial, Hon’ble Court of Special Judge (POCSO), West Garo Hills, Tura found the accused person namely Shri King Victor Ch. Marak @ Tengchu guilty and convicted under Section 376(2) IPC R/W Sec. 6 of POCSO Act, 2012.

Subsequent to the judgment, the Hon’ble Court, on 4th July 2022, sentenced the accused person to undergo “Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for Ten (10) years with fine of Rs. 40,000/- (Rupees Forty Thousand) only and in default of fine, he shall be sentenced for further simple imprisonment of six (6) months for committing the offence of rape or aggravated penetrative sexual assault to minor victim girl”.
