Tura, July 21: In an effort to ensure road safety and enforce traffic regulations, the Tura traffic police conducted a surprise checking near Te.Teng Aja below Tura Circuit house on Thursday.
The focus of the checking was to inspect scooters and bikes predominantly used by school and college students. Surprisingly, over 30 two-wheelers were found to be without proper documents or valid driving licenses (DL). The traffic police also scrutinized seatbelt usage in four-wheelers during the checking.
Speaking to Hub News, one of the officers involved in the drive stated, “We are imposing fines on riders found without a valid DL, insurance failures, non-compliance with seatbelt usage in four-wheelers, as well as permit failures in auto-rickshaws and mini goods carriers.”
The officer further revealed that some of the vehicles had pending payment dues.
The payment process for fines has been simplified, offering violators the option to pay online or visit the Tura traffic branch in person to settle the dues against the issued slip.
The fines levied by the traffic department for various violations are as follows:
– Driving License (DL) – Rs. 5000
– Registration Certificate (RC) – Rs. 5000
– Permit – Rs. 10,000
– No Seatbelt/Helmet – Rs. 1000
Additionally, the Tura traffic branch has established flying squads that act as backup and provide assistance during traffic jams or emergency situations.
The surprise checking revealed a significant number of students in violation of traffic regulations, raising concerns about the need for awareness and responsible behaviour among students and parents alike.
