Tura, Sept 22: With an aim to promote weightlifting in Garo Hills, the Meghalaya Weightlifting Association (MWA) on Saturday handed over essential equipment to the West Garo Hills Weightlifting Association (WGHWA).
The equipment provided by MWA include – 15kg weightlifting bar, two 15kg weights, two 10kg weights and two 5kg weights. This will enhance the weightlifting infrastructure for the athletes in Tura.
In its meeting, the MWA highlighted on the active participation of athletes from Garo Hills in this year’s Meghalaya Games. They also extended their invitation to WGHWA to the 3rd State Weightlifting Championship, scheduled for October 25-26 in Jowai.
The two organisations also held discussion on the future of weightlifting as a potential for giving opportunities to talents. They also hoped that Garo Hills has talent and they should identify and provide them necessary trainings.
The MWA assured its full support to Garo Hills association and said that they would collaborate working and seek support from the state government to promote weightlifting in Garo Hills.
