Tura’s Community Science College celebrates 21 years of excellence in education

Tura, Sept 24: The College of Community Science, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Tura, celebrated its 21st Foundation Day on Tuesday with a grand event at the District Auditorium in Tura.

The celebration saw Dr. Mamoni Das, Dean of the College of Community Science at Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, serving as the Chief Guest, alongside Dr. Raghavendra Kumar MG, DIG, who was the Guest of Honour. Presiding over the event was Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad, Dean of the College of Community Science (CCS), CAU, Tura. The ceremony attracted a large gathering of students, faculty, and community members.

Other notable guests included Tengchi Margarette G. Momin, Additional Deputy Commissioner; Dr. Puspita Das, Former Dean in-charge of CCS, CAU, Tura; and Dr. Namita Singh, Former Dean in-charge of CCS, CAU, Tura, among other dignitaries.

For over two decades, the College of Community Science, CAU (Imphal), Sangsanggre, Tura, has been at the forefront introducing several initiatives along with the Government of Meghalaya to engage students more deeply in science education, serving students not only from Tura but also from neighboring regions.

In his address, Dr. Raghavendra Kumar MG, congratulated the college for its growth and achievements. He emphasized the potential of local products from Meghalaya, urging their recognition at national and international levels, and encouraged the college to enhance its online presence to make these products more accessible. Dr. Kumar also engaged students in discussions on critical topics, including youth responsibilities, cybercrime prevention, crime against women and children, and drug abuse.

The event featured insightful speeches from other dignitaries who reflected on the College’s progress and achievements over the years.

Publications were also released to commemorate the occasion, and certificates were awarded to faculty and staff in recognition of their contributions. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of recent poetry, extempore speech, and quiz competitions organized by the college.

A special moment in the celebration was the felicitation of Sixbirth M. Marak, who recently won the Gold Medal in the Under-13 Boys’ Singles category at the 39th edition of the Meghalaya State Badminton Championship 2024.

Adding glitz and colour to the event was a fashion show featuring the students, showcasing a unique blend of traditional culture and contemporary fashion. The celebration concluded with colorful cultural and musical performances by the students and local artists, highlighting the vibrant cultural diversity of the region.
