Tura, Oct 21: The high-power Open Basketball Tournament, organised by the District Basketball Association, commenced with their semifinals on Monday at Don Bosco College in Tura.
The thrilling event features 10 men’s teams and 5 women’s teams from across Meghalaya, and is scheduled to hold finals on October 25.
Basketball enthusiasts and students from the host college gathered to witness the exciting match between Sangkni and Kawate in the men’s category.
Straight from the jump ball, Kawate drew first blood with a three pointer, opening the scoreline. And as the game ensued Kawate displayed skilful gameplay.
But towards the second quarter, the game started tilting in favour of Sangkni as they kept scoring, evading Kawate’s defense.
In the third and fourth quarter, Kawate became formidable with their shots coming in from left and right. They dominated the entire latter half of the game, showcasing skilful passes and alley-oop shots.
Kawate won the match by a major 72-58 against Sangkni and has moved on to the final.
First semifinal match in the women’s category will be played between Kawate and Surmount at 3pm on Tuesday at Don Bosco College, Tura.
