Two arrested for alleged rape of Adivasi woman in Assam’s Charaideo

Guwahati, May 31: Assam police have arrested two persons in conection with the rape of an Adivasi woman in Charaideo district on May 27. They were apprehended on Sunday night.

Talking to media persons, Charaideo SP, Sudhakar Singh said, “We have picked up two persons in conection with the rape incident. The incident was reported on May 27 evening when the woman and her daughter were discharged from  Sapekhati Model Hospital after testing Covid negative. On their way back home, two miscreants kidnapped the woman from the road forcefully and took her to some isolated place and rapped her.”

Singh said, “On the next day, the victim filed a complaint and on the basis of her complaint we started investigation and on last night we have picked up two persons.  The victim has identified both the persons and on the basis of her identification both were arrested. As per law we will forwarded them to court,”.

The incident took place at Dhudarali near Borhaat tea garden in Charaideo district.

The victim is a resident of Borhaat Nagamaati. The distance between the hospital and their Borhaat Nagamaati area is about 25 km.

The Assam Tea Tribes Students’ alleged that due to negligence on the part of medical authority the incident happened.

“After our discharge from the hospital. We asked medical staff to manage an ambulance or vehicle for us to return home. But they didn’t provide us any facilities. Then we decided to walk and on our way back home the incident occurred,” said the victim’s daughter.
