Guwahati, May 22: In a tragic incident, two women were killed after their scooter was hit by a car and a truck near Garchuk area in Guwahati, on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Mamoni Bora Das and Kunti Das.
Mamoni Bora was resident of Nagaon while Kunti Das was a resident of Sivsagar.
According to police, the victims were on a scooter when they were hit by an Mahindra XUV 300 vehicle bearing registration no (AS01EB1126) from behind.
“The impact of the accident was so heavy that two women came under a truck bearing registration (AS01QC9471). Both of them died on the spot,” said the police.
The SUV driver Kumud Bora, who was apprehended by the local residents and was handed over to police.
“Kumud Bora was under the influence of alcohol and had no control of his vehicle when it crashed into the scooter. We have sent him for medical examination we have to wait for the reports untill tomorrow, we have taken him under custody,” said the police official.
