Shillong, April 25: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home, Prestone Tynsong, on Friday assured to provide adequate security in the campus of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) following the incident of assault on a teacher.
Speaking to media persons, Tynsong said the law will take its own course against those involved in the assaulting an assistant professor of the Hindi department in NEHU.
“I have already instructed the Superintendent of Police (SP) and law enforcers to ensure safety and security and that the whole campus of NEHU is fully secured,” he said.

When asked about the kind of security measures being taken, Tynsong said, “Why should I tell you? I told you we have already provided enough security. So, I don’t think I need to detail to you what, how many and why and what and where as that is the duty of the state government to ensure the safety and security of all – be it students, be it faculty members – and that everybody is safe.”
Urging all concerned not to worry, the Deputy CM said, “Please don’t have any kind of tension. From the government, we have already strengthened the security and we will make sure that everybody is safe, those staying or going to NEHU campus.”

“Don’t ask me further about that. As I said, it is the prerogative (of the government) depending upon the situation. The law enforcers or the police department are on the job to ensure safety of people over there (and that the campus) is fully secured,” he added.
An FIR has been lodged by assistant professor Alok Singh against the president of NEHUSU Sandy Sohtun and five others for allegedly assaulting him in his chamber on April 24.
