Jowai, Dec 30: Seiñraij Jowai commemorated the 161st Death Anniversary of U Kiang Nangbah at Myngkoi Pyrdi, Loompyrdi Iongpiah, Jowai on Saturday where Rajya Sabha MP, Dr. Wanweiroy Kharlukhi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Dr. Kharlukhi in his speech stated that even after 161 years the legacy of U Kiang Nangbah remains because of his legacy and passion to fight because he wanted to see his countrymen free.
He informed that in a memoir published by the Britishers in 1863, it was stated that the British soldiers found it difficult to fight against U Kiang Nangbah and his men and it further stated that 3 Officers died fighting the Pnar soldiers under Nangbah’s guidance.
Moreover, he stated that U Kiang Nangbah was the best general in guerrilla warfare of his time because he took advantage of the terrain of Jaiñtia Hills and used tactics that surprised the Britishers.
During the function, former Presidents and Secretary of Seiñraij Jowai were also felicitated.
