Shillong, Jan 12: The Techno Global University (TGU) at the Shillong Polytechnic Campus, Mawlai, has been removed from the list of universities by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The TGU was enlisted in the UGC list of universities in January 2013.
In its official website, the TGU had said, “Techno Global University, Shillong, has never started any academic activity since inception. We have never issued any mark-sheet, certificate and degree to any person. We have also never authorized any person or institution to act on behalf of us.”
“In view of the above, the name of Techno Global University, Shillong Meghalaya has been removed from the UGC list of universities,” the UGC said in a public notice issued on December 27, 2023.
The decision was also based on the recommendation of the education department, Government of Meghalaya.
“However, the Education Department, Govt. of Meghalaya vide its letter No. EDN.136/2008/669 dated 27.09.2022 recommended to remove the name of university from the UGC list of universities since the university was non-existent,” the official notice stated.
