Shillong, Dec 6: The boys in red, Shillong Lajong FC, showcased a formidable performance, extending their unbeaten streak to eight matches and securing a soaring victory against Goa’s Churchill Brothers with a 2-0 win at the SSA Stadium in Polo, Shillong, on Wednesday.

The game ignited just before the halftime whistle, as Laiwang Bohham’s remarkable goal in the 45th minute propelled Shillong Lajong into the lead. Returning in the second half, the team continued their dominance.

At the 51st minute, Renan Paulino secured another goal through a penalty kick, despite Churchill Brothers’ goalkeeper Subhashis Roy making a valiant attempt to block the shot. The six thousand-strong home supporters filled the stadium with continuous cheers throughout the match, igniting an electric atmosphere even on a chilly Shillong afternoon.

This crucial victory has sent Shillong Lajong to the third spot in the I-League standings, accumulating 16 points, equalling the tally of second-place Sreenidi Deccan FC, with the difference only lying in goal difference. However, Shillong Lajong’s next challenge looms as they are set to host NorthEast rival Aizwal FC on December 10 at the SSA Stadium in Polo, Shillong.
