Union Home Minister speaks to Tripura CM, assures of full assistance from Centre

Agartala, Aug 22: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday spoke to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and enquired about the flood situation, and assured him of full assistance from the Centre.

Taking to X, Amit Shah said, “Spoke with CM Tripura, @DrManikSaha2 Ji, and took stock of the flood situation in the state. The Centre is rushing teams of NDRF, apart from boats and helicopters, to the state to assist the local government in relief and rescue operations. Assured of all possible assistance from the Centre as and when required. The Modi government firmly stands with our sisters and brothers in Tripura during this hour of crisis.”

The flood situation in Tripura remained grim on Thursday ever as more NDRF teams were airlifted to Agartala through IAF aircrafts.

On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has continued its red alert for all eight districts of Tripura.

At least 10 people have died in the flood and around 40,000 people are taking shelter in 335 relief camps in all eight districts.

Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is supervising the flood situation and disaster management, spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the second day on Thursday and apprised him of the prevailing scenario.

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles led the relief and rescue operations in Tripura. Four rescue columns of Assam Rifles were deployed in various parts of the state, including East Kanchanbari, Kumarghat, Unakoti district, Amarpur of Gomati district, Bishalgarh, Sepahijala district, and Tripura West.

“In the wee hours of 22 Aug 24, information was received by Assam Rifles that women folk were stuck on the roofs of submerged houses in the general area of Bishalgarh, Sepahijala district. Relief columns of Assam Rifles comprising Riflewomen rushed to the location and rescued the stranded women.They not only helped these women to reach the relief camps but also provided essential items,” an official of Assam Rifles said.

Rifle women of Assam Rifles have also been deployed in flooded areas and are an asset in these challenging times, providing required assistance, especially for women.

“As of now, over 750 people have been evacuated all over the state. Medical aid and other assistance are also being provisioned where required. Assam Rifles is working in close coordination with civil administration and NDRF teams in the state to alleviate the difficulties of stranded citizens,” the statement said.
