Tura, April 29: Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, conducted a key review meeting at the Circuit House in Tura on Tuesday, focusing on tribal welfare and development initiatives in Meghalaya.
The meeting, held as part of the Prime Minister’s directive for Union Ministers to visit Northeast districts, brought together officials from various departments to assess the progress of central schemes.

The session reviewed the implementation and impact of several flagship programs, including the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), tribal scholarship schemes, and the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP).
Discussions aimed to fine-tune existing strategies and ensure that government initiatives are effectively reaching tribal communities.

Minister Oram reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to inclusive growth and urged officials to strengthen outreach mechanisms and regularly engage with local stakeholders. He also offered recommendations to enhance the delivery of services and streamline program implementation for maximum impact.
A key point raised during the meeting was a community appeal for the establishment of a nursing college in the region, underlining the demand for improved healthcare infrastructure and educational facilities.
Speaking to Hub News, Oram shared that his review visit, including a field trip to a local village on Monday, offered valuable insights. “Direct interaction with residents helps us better understand ground realities and shape more responsive policies,” he said.
The review concluded with a renewed call for synergy between central and local administrations to drive sustainable development and uplift tribal populations across Meghalaya.
He also visited Chandigre village, on the foothills of Nokrek in West Garo Hills, where he interacted with SHGs and community leaders.
