Shillong, Jan 10: A massive fire in the Mawbah area of the city on Tuesday evening destroyed 5 houses.

This was the second incident of fire involving houses in the city in a day.

The incident took place at around 5 pm and five rented houses were damaged by fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be known. There was also no update available on the loss of property and casualty.

Earlier in the day, a fire broke out at Mawlai Umjaiur at around 9.30 am in which four rented houses were gutted. Sources said the cause of the fire was suspected to be due to a short circuit. There was no casualty reported during the incident.

The rented houses belong to Manosha Ryndem, Biolet Ryndem, Ibamelaai Diengdoh and Anand Nengnong.
