Order for new ambulances placed, State to receive 11 ambulances from DoNER

Shillong, June 14: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma on Monday slammed opposition Congress for sensationalizing the issue of lack of ambulances with life support system in several health care centres in the State.

Peeved at the opposition from trying to score few brownie points when the State is fighting with its all against the deadly second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the CM said “to pass comment on lack of facilities and services is very easy”.

He said that health department has been working round the clock across the State to ensure that the people are given the best available medical care.

He added that the Covid pandemic is like a war and the State Government has been managing the situation to its best with whatever limited resource it has.

On the non-availability of ambulance with life support facilities in several health care centres in the State, he said most of the ambulances that were purchased last year were meant for transportation of patients as per the requirements at that point of time.

However, as per the requirement that is prevalent in the Sate due to second wave of Covid, the Government has placed order for new ambulance with life support.

Also, 11 new ambulances having life support system have been allotted to Meghalaya by the Ministry of DoNER. These ambulances will be positioned across different parts of the State, wherever ambulances are required with life support facilities, he informed.

Covid Ward Visit

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma has urged legislators to be part of his visit to “Covid Ward” and understand the reality and how the health workers are working for everyone’s safety.

“Why don’t we, all the MLAs present in the meeting, visit some of the Covid care units, wear the PPEs which the doctors and the nurses wear and go through the conditions that they go through. Then we will be in a better position to realise what kind of challenge we really face,” he said.

The CM recently visited the Covid Ward in Tura Civil Hospital and donned the PPE kit to experience the difficulties the doctors and nurses go though every day while taking care of Covid patients.

“I have visited the COVID wards in Tura and I have no problem in visiting the Covid wards here,” the CM said while asking others to join him in the visit to better understand the ground reality of Covid situation and the life of the hospital staff.

Chief Minister is likely to visit Covid Ward in Shillong within this week.
