VHP rally in Dibrugarh demands President’s Rule in West Bengal over attacks on Hindus

Must read

Dibrugarh, April 19: Activists of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) staged a demonstration outside the office of the Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner on Saturday, calling for the imposition of President’s Rule in West Bengal in response to what they described as a surge in violence against Hindus.

The protest march began at Chowkidingee and moved to the DC’s office, where participants brandished placards and banners accusing the Mamata Banerjee‑led government of failing to protect Hindu residents. Slogans demanding central intervention echoed through the compound as the group submitted a memorandum for President Droupadi Murmu via Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi.

“Incidents of violence against Hindus are rising every day. Houses are being torched and property vandalised, yet the West Bengal government does nothing,” said Dimbeswar Hazarika, president of the VHP’s Dibrugarh unit. “The recent communal flare‑up in Murshidabad shows the state administration has lost control. For the safety of Hindus, President’s Rule is now the only solution,” he demanded.

Hazarika alleged that police in West Bengal had been unable or unwilling to curb “unruly mobs” targeting Hindu neighbourhoods, prompting many families to flee Murshidabad district in fear for their lives.

The memorandum submitted by the VHP asks the President to dismiss the state government under Article 356 of the Constitution and deploy central forces “to restore peace and stability.”
