Shillong, Dec 13: The vibrant Simsang Festival 2024 that promises a celebration of culture, tradition, and entertainment with Indigenous Games and Sports, a spectacular Musical Evening, and a variety of stalls showcasing local crafts, cuisines, and more, began in Williamnagar on Friday.
The two-day event was inaugurated by Meghalaya’s Minister for Soil and Water Conservation, Marcuise N Marak, at Williamnagar District Sports Association (WDSA) stadium in East Garo Hills.
Inaugurating the festival, Marcuise assured that the government of Meghalaya is committed to promote tourism in Garo Hills and made a special mention of Daribokgre and Mandalgre saying that the govt is taking necessary steps to promote tourism in the area.
The highlights of the festival include competitions in flower show, singing and dancing, cooking competitions, traditional and indigenous games, eating, fancy dress, among others.
On the day, others who spoke on the occasion included East Garo Hills’ DC, Vibhor Aggarwal, and Senior Citizen, Crossnil D Sangma.
