“There is a post going viral on social media about an assault on a person by non tribal miscreants at Golf link area and that special hit squads have been formed to target tribal individuals. It may be informed that the matter has been verified and no such incident occurred. At the same time nobody has come forward to file any complaint,” informed Sylvester Nongtnger, Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills, in a press statement on Monday.

He also advised the people to refrain from forwarding any such misinformation without the proper verification of facts.

Mentionably, in the afternoon of January 20, 2022, 55-year-old Chandan Paul, a shopkeeper, was stabbed and two others were assaulted by a group of 10-12 masked miscreants right opposite the Lumdiengjri police station in Shillong.
