Shillong, Sept 6: Senior BJP leader and MLA of Pynthorumkhrah, AL Hek, said that many party members throughout the state of Meghalaya have shown no confidence in the leadership of the party president, Ernest Mawrie.
AL Hek made this statement following the news that the former MLA from Mawsynram and Spokesperson of the BJP, Himalaya M Shangpliang, resigned from the Saffron Party on Wednesday, in which he clearly mentioned his differences with the state party president and alleged nepotism within the state BJP under the present leadership.
Speaking to reporters after a program, Hek said that the allegations made by Shangpliang have been voiced by all members of the party from all over the Khasi-Garo region. In an anonymous statement, all members will express the same concerns that they are not happy with the leadership of the State President of the BJP, and this is the main reason the party cannot grow or strengthen in the state of Meghalaya, said Hek.
When asked why the BJP central leadership has not taken any steps in removing the president, Hek said that Mawrie’s tenure is almost ending, and the BJP central leadership is busy preparing for elections in different states. Once these elections are over, they will intervene, added Hek.
Hek informed that the party will call for an emergency meeting with all the party members to discuss this matter, as it is a big loss to the party with the resignation of senior leader HM Shangpliang.
It maybe mentioned, H. M. Shangpliang submitted his resignation on Wednesday citing ‘nepotism’ within the Saffron Party.
In his resignation letter addressed to the Party president, Ernest Mawrie, Shangpliang said, “…though I would have liked to remain and serve the party in the right earnest, I understand that as long as nepotism prevails within the rank and file of the State BJP continues under the leadership of the State president, it will hinder all possible steps of the dedicated and loyal party men to freely exercise their minds and grow in the party.”
“And, therefore, I tender my resignation from the primary membership of the BJP in the State of Meghalaya forthwith on personal grounds,” he added.
