Walkathon and cycling rally held at Tura to spread awareness on Tobacco Free Meghalaya

Shillong, May 25: Walkathon and Cycling Rally was held at Tura on Saturday. It was organised by the District Health Society, Tura under National Tobacco Control Programe. The rally was themed,  “My Meghalaya Tobacco Free Meghalaya “. The Rally began from Chandmary Playground to Amphitheatre, ( Art & Culture), Sericulture Compound, Tura.

The District Nodal officer, National Tobacco Control Programme, District Health Society, Dr Menokichi D Sangma informed that the main objective of the program was to sensitize the people and create awareness on the health hazards of Tobacco use and also to encourage quitting of Tobacco and it’s products. She also mentioned that the program was held in order to commemorate the “World No Tobacco Day”, which would be observed on 31st May, 2024.

The District Medical and Health Officer, West Garo Hills Tura Dr Jakrambal A Sangma flagged off the Rally and also distributed the certificate and cash prizes to the winners.
