Shillong, Nov 11: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today said that the government respects the views of the opposition.

“The House is the platform were different issues can be brought out, the opposition decided to go for a no confidence motion to express their concern and we respect that…it also gives us an opportunity as government to clarify on a number of subjects. Therefore, they made their point and we reverted back with our replies… they did not withdraw the motion… so it went for a vote… obviously we have the majority, and the motion was defeated,” Chief Minister said, when asked to react after the day long discussion.

He also told that their view has been noted and government will take necessary measures to address the concerns of the opposition.

Meanwhile, leader of opposition Dr. Mukul M. Sangma said that the allegation of serious corruption were not answered by the government. He said that the ruling government only provided information on development initiatives taken up by the government and failed to respond on irregularities and cases of corruption that are prevalent.

“Number of issues were tabled in the House, including allegations of serious corruption…therefore we want the government to stop all the irregularity and commit before the people in the august House to protect the interest of the State,” said Dr. Sangma.

He alleged that the Chief Minister has not taken note of the serious issues raised by the opposition and tried to evade away from his responsibilities.
