Shillong, May 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Shillong has issued a weather alert, predicting thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall across several districts in Meghalaya.
The affected areas include East Garo Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, North Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills, and Ri-Bhoi, where isolated instances of adverse weather conditions are expected over the next three hours.
The advisory, issued at 10:30 AM on May 1, remains valid until 1:30 PM, urging residents in these areas to take necessary precautions and remain alert.
Authorities advise the public to stay indoors wherever possible, avoid open fields during lightning strikes, and secure loose objects that may be displaced by strong winds. Travelers are also encouraged to exercise caution on the roads, as sudden downpours could affect visibility and driving conditions.
