Shillong, Feb 7: A class 8 student allegedly killed a student of class 1 by smashing his head with a stone in the hope of getting a holiday at school, as per police reports.

The accused was arrested on Monday and later produced before juvenile court.
The victim reportedly went missing on January 30. Later in the evening, the body of the student was found in a secluded pond about four hundred meters away from the school.

On further investigation, the police suspected an eighth-grader and eventually after interrogation, he confessed to the murder.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the student was admitted to the residential school only eight days ago.
Superintendent of Police of Purulia, Abhijit Banerjee said, “The boy knew that if someone died in the school, there was a holiday. He committed this murder to get a holiday. The school teachers could not tell anything special about the student. Head teacher Yudhishthir Mahato said that since the student is brand new, they do not know anything about him. However, they did not see anything unusual. The staff did not admit any trouble between the two students even in the hostel.”
