West Garo Hills boys reach finals of 39th Meghalaya Badminton Championship

Shillong, Aug 30: Quite a few young talents from West Garo Hills have impressed with their performances at the ongoing 39th Meghalaya State Badminton Championship 2024 at the SAI multipurpose stadium in NEHU, Shillong, with many reaching the finals.

West Garo Hills has sent a strong contingent of 23 players. Among them, Sixbirth M. Marak has reached the finals in the Under-13 boys’ singles. Meanwhile, Sixbirth M. Marak and Cheyziel K. Sangma have advanced to the semifinals in the boys’ doubles, while Dejak Rocco G. Momin and Ierang N. Sangma have reached the finals in the Under-17 boys’ doubles.

West Garo Hills has two confirmed finalists: Sixbirth M. Marak in the Under-13 boys’ singles, and Dejak Rocco G. Momin & Ierang N. Sangma in the Under-17 boys’ doubles.

In the men’s categories, Gitchiak Bregim A. Sangma will compete in the semifinals of the men’s singles, and in the men’s doubles, Gitchiak Bregim A. Sangma and Chirag Agarwal have also qualified for the semifinals.

All the final matches will be played on Saturday, the last day of the championship.

The 23 players were shortlisted based on their performances at the recently held 2nd West Garo Hills District Badminton Championship at the Indoor Sports Hall in Hawakhana, Tura, from August 15 to 17, 2024.

The players are competing across 21 categories, with the winners set to represent Meghalaya at the national stage.
