Shillong, April 21: The Vatican has announced that Pope Francis will be laid to rest in the Pauline Chapel of the Basilica of St. Mary Major on Saturday honoring the wishes he expressed in his Spiritual Testament.
The sacred chapel, home to the revered icon Maria Salus Populi Romani — a symbol of protection for the people of Rome — holds deep spiritual significance for the late pontiff.

The Holy See Press Office also confirmed the cause of death as a stroke, followed by a coma and irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse, according to Dr. Andrea Arcangeli, Director of the Directorate of Health and Hygiene of the Vatican City State.
The official medical report noted that Pope Francis had been battling a number of serious health conditions, including acute respiratory failure from multimicrobial bilateral pneumonia, multiple bronchiectases, hypertension, and Type II diabetes.

His passing was medically confirmed through electrocardiographic thanatography, a standard method used by Vatican physicians to certify papal death.
