Guwahati, Aug 29: Janmejoy Sarkar, a research scholar from Tezpur University, is all set to contribute his expertise to ISRO’s Aditya L1 mission. This mission aims to study the sun and its corona.
Who is Janmejoy Sarkar?
Janmejoy Sarkar is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the Department of Physics at Tezpur University. Since 2021, he has been working at ISRO’s Aditya L1 mission.
He is developing IUCAA’s Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) payload on board Aditya-L1.
He had joined the Aditya L1 mission as a senior research fellow from the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA, Pune).
Sarkar completed his M.Sc. in Physics from Tezpur University in 2018.
Also, Chayan Dutta, an alumnus of Tezpur University, was part of the Chandrayaan-3 team that made history after the spacecraft successfully landed on the moon’s south pole on August 23.
ISRO’s Aditya L1 mission is a space mission that aims to study the sun’s corona and its impact on the Earth’s climate.
“A satellite placed in the halo orbit around the L1 point has the major advantage of continuously viewing the sun without any occultation or eclipse.” This will provide a greater advantage in observing solar activities and their effect on space weather in real-time,” said ISRO.
“The suits of Aditya L1 payloads are expected to provide the most crucial information to understand the problem of coronal heating, coronal mass ejection, pre-flare and flare activities and their characteristics, dynamics of space weather, propagation of particles and fields, etc.” ISRO added.
The Aditya-L1 spacecraft will be launched using the PSLV-C57 rocket.
