Tura, April 2: A herd of wild elephants damaged a house and an arecanut plantation in Balijora, under Dalu Police Station in West Garo Hills, around 9 PM on Tuesday.
A forest department official confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported. However, the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed.
The elephants have reportedly moved towards the Belabore area, where forest personnel are monitoring the situation. While some villagers believe more than ten elephants were involved, officials stated that due to the incident occurring at night, it remains unclear whether it was a single elephant or a herd.
The affected area is near the Bangladesh border, a known corridor for elephant movement.
The official further stated that a full investigation will be conducted to evaluate the damage and determine compensation for those impacted.
