Guwahati, Feb 26: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday during the last Budget session of the Legislative assembly said he will never allow the business of child marriage to take place in the state of Assam till he his alive.
“As long as Himanta Biswa Sarma is alive, we will not allow child marriage in Assam’. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in the House on the issue of child marriage. I want to challenge you all politically that before 2026 , I will stop the shops and business of child marriage” he said.
He further said, “Think about children, I will not allow 5-6 year-old girls to get married. As along as I am alive, I will not allow child marriage to happen in Assam,”.
Sarma also came down heavily on the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for allegedly supporting the idea of child marriage and continuously objecting to government’s efforts and initiative to stop the social evil.
