Tura, Mar 20: The five-day “Regional Workshop on Traditional Musical Instruments and Performing Arts” was organized by A∙chik Literature Society, Tura in collaboration with the Department of Garo, NEHU Tura Campus and Department of Garo, Don Bosco College.
The week long workshop began from Monday and will conclude on Friday. Seventy-six participants registered to join the workshop on making and playing of dama (drum), flutes and chigring, and to learn the art of Wangala dance and grika dance.
Dr. Jacqueline R. Marak, Head Department of Garo, NEHU Tura Campus in her inaugural address Dr. Jacqueline R. Marak spoke about the golden chance for the participants to get practical knowledge of the art of music and dance of their own tribe apart from the regular syllabus, to learn time management and team work.
Majority of the participants were from NEHU, the rest came from Tura Government College, Tura Christian College, Don Bosco College, Tura, ICFAI university, P.A. Sangma Foundation (PASF).
The instructors Mr Ringjeng T. Sangma and Sotjak Ch. Marak of Selbalgre, Mr. Dewal M. Sangma and Lendinbirth S. Sangma of Rombagre and Mr Dirot Ch. Marak and Mr Chingchat T. Sangma of Gondenggre imparted their knowledge and skills to the participants.
