Tura, June 5: World Environment Day was observed by the Tura Public School Eco-Club at the Tura Public School, Gillian Memorial Hall, Chitoktak, West Garo Hills in Meghalaya on Monday.
World Environment Say 2023 was celebrated with the theme – “Solutions to Plastic Pollution”.
During the World Environment Day celebration a massive plantation drive at the catchment site bordering Tura Public school and Tura Polytechnic. A slide show by the students and speeches were also made by the principal of the school and also by the esteemed guest.
World Environment Day event was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills as the chief guest, Sir Ashaseel D Shira as the guest of honour and the special guest were the people from the Sadhana Forest group, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to rehabilitating ecosystems, reforestation, food security, water conservation and sustainable living.
An inspiring speech was also given by the Deputy Commissioner while addressing the students about the dangers of pollution and micro-plastic to ecosystem. He encouraged the students to use less plastic materials and push towards a healthy and environment friendly lifestyle.
The event was concluded with a plantation drive led by the Principal of Tura Public School, Sir Pranab Bhowmik I/C along with the teachers, students and the esteemed guest where they planted saplings all around to mark the World Environment Day and also in order to spread a message of awareness to people that we should seriously consider about the impact we have on our environment and try our best to not contribute to it any further
