Tura, March 28: World Tuberculosis (TB) Day was observed on Thursday at the District TB Hospital with the theme “Yes, We Can End TB – Commit, Invest, Deliver.”

The Guest of Honour, Dr. Rajamony R. Marak, Nodal Officer of the ART Centre at Tura Civil Hospital, spoke on the correlation between HIV and TB. He explained that HIV weakens the immune system, increasing the risk of TB infection, making the fight against both diseases interconnected.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Jakrambal Sangma, DM&HO of West Garo Hills, emphasized that TB is one of the oldest known diseases and discussed its evolution and the discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. She stressed that India aims to eliminate TB by 2025, while the global target is set for 2030, calling for collective efforts and cooperation from all sections of society.
As part of the event, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the best-performing Health & Wellness Centres (HWC), including Damalgre, Waram Songma, Damal Asim, Wajadagre, and Tarapara. Additionally, nutritional kits were provided to TB patients under the Comprehensive TB Care (CTBC) program, reinforcing the need for proper nutrition in TB recovery.
The event served as a strong reminder of the ongoing fight against TB and the need for continued commitment, investment, and public participation to achieve a TB-free India.
