Yaba tablets seized in Garo Hills

Tura, Dec 18: A huge quantity of banned narcotic substance called Yaba tablets was seized in South West Garo Hills district by police on Thursday from a man who came from Assam.

The drug courier was entering Garo Hills from the Monabari entry point in South West Garo Hills when he got caught during checking by police and BSF troops deployed at the check point.

The accused had come from Mankachar in Assam.

During checking police spotted hidden packages and when opened they found 3499 tablets suspected to be Yaba drugs.

“The accused confessed to police that he was carrying the tablets to deliver to someone else.  A case has been registered at Ampati PS under NDPS act and other relevant provisions of law and investigation is under progress,” said South West Garo Hills SP R Ravi.

There are many cases of seizure of Yaba tablets in West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills border district in the last couple of months. The drugs are said to be manufactured in Myanmar and sent to Bangladesh from where it is smuggled into India through Garo Hills and Assam.
