Shillong, Aug 10: Vice Chancellor of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla on Thursday said he has not received any official communication from college principals and students that they are against implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).
“NEHU has already taken a decision to implement the NEP and till date, I have not received (any communication from) our principals and students. None of the principals have sent me any mail that they don’t want to implement the NEP,” Shukla told reporters.
With regards to the protest by the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA), the NEHU VC said, “Actually MCTA is mainly concerned with the state government and they are not working under my government, even me I cannot say anything to the MCTA, I am ready to discuss but I cannot even directly call them.”
He, however, said that he is ready to discuss with the MCTA at any time on the NEP.
“Not only with the MCTA, I am ready to discuss with anyone. I have discussed with the KSU, NEHUSU, HYC, FKJGP and everybody is convinced (that the NEP is) for the benefit of the youths of Meghalaya,” Shukla said.
When asked, the NEHU VC said that the Academic Council is a constitutional body and there is a rule and system to call the meeting of the Academic Council.
“However, immediately I cannot call (the meeting). All teachers cannot join the Academic Council as only members can join but without the Academic Council, I can discuss anything with anyone. That is why I am ready to discuss NEP with anyone,” he stated.
