Youth Arrested for Voting Eight Times in UP, Polling Officials Suspended

Etah, UP, May 20: In a surprising incident mocking the election process, a youth in the Etah district of Uttar Pradesh was seen voting eight times in the ongoing Lok Sabha poll.

The youth, identified as Rajan Singh from the village of Khiriya Pamaran in Etah district, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested after a video showing him voting multiple times went viral on social media.

The incident took place in the Farrukhabad parliamentary constituency and has led to the suspension of all members of the polling party at the concerned stations.

In the two-minute video, the youth was seen voting for the BJP candidate Mukesh Rajput, who is contesting from the Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

The viral video surfaced on Sunday, and many political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, questioned the election commission by sharing the video on X.

After the incident sparked controversy, state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa ordered an enquiry. An FIR was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Several opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, took to social media to condemn the incident and call for stringent action. CEO Navdeep Rinwa confirmed the polling officials’ arrest and suspension and ordered repolling at the affected polling stations.
