Zero tolerance against corruption is the core issue of the BJP, says Hek

Shillong, Jan 9: Asserting that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stands on its resolution, ‘Zero tolerance against corruption,’ senior BJP leader and cabinet Minister AL Hek said that BJP from the beginning followed zero-tolerance against corruption that is the main issue of BJP.

Referring to the visit of state BJP leaders to Delhi, Hek said, “Zero tolerance is the core issue of the BJP, of course, they will discuss it with the central leadership because this is the main agenda of BJP.”

The State BJP last December passed a resolution on “zero tolerance on corruption”, saying “many people in the rural areas as well as in the urban areas were victims of bad governance in the State.”

The saffron party, which is supporting the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance Government while raising issues relating to corruption in governance, adopted the resolution at a meeting held last month which was presided over by state BJP president, Ernest Mawrie.

However, the issue of corruption seems to have created a vertical rift in the BJP, with the state party leaders and the central leadership echoing diametrically opposite views on the graft issue.

Elaborating further on the resolution, Hek said, “Any party not only BJP has the right to raise any issue for the interest of the public but not at the cost of the Government.”

“Anyone who has any issue with anyone should come out with proper facts and figures before accusing anyone with corruption,” he added.

To a query, Hek said that the BJP state is fully satisfied with the state Government as he added, “But we have to alert the Government with regards to any allegations, no one can stop anybody from raising any issue especially about corruption but one should not accuse anyone without proper facts or proof.”
