Guwahati, May 16: “Ya Ali” fame and Popular Assamese Singer Zubeen Garg has reacted to the incident of suspension of a female cop on social media. Mili Prabha Chutia, posted as Home Guard at Chabua PS in Dibrugarh district of Assam, was suspended after a video of her surfaced on social media where she was seen hugging and kissing the singer during a concert.

The incident has sparked debate in the state regarding the conduct of uniform personnel in public places and the action of the police department on her conduct.

Taking to social media, Zubeen wrote, “I know there are norms attached to uniforms. But, love is not, and must not be, a punishable offence.”

Zubeen’s remarks have garnered significant attention on social media, where he has a large following. Many Facebook users expressed their support for Chutia, with one commenting, “It is injustice. It is degrading our artists. The department should revise its decision.” Another user urged Zubeen to advocate for the Home Guard, writing, “Zubeen should take the initiative to make the department understand that it’s not a punishable matter.”

However, not everyone agreed with Zubeen’s perspective. Some supported the police department’s action, arguing that maintaining discipline is crucial. One user commented, “If a police officer or defence personnel begins to fall in love with everyone while on duty, it can lead to complications.”
