22 teachers appointed as PASF-Abong Noga College in Tura receives People’s College Grant

Tura, Sept 13: Twenty-two teachers were handed appointments letters by the state government on Friday during the handing over ceremony of the People’s College grant-in-aid scheme to PASF – Abong Noga College, Tura.

The handing over of the appointment letters to faculty members, symbolized the commencement of the scheme at PASF-Abong Noga college. The twenty-two teachers who were handed the appointment letters are lecturers in various subject departments of the college.

The inauguration was held at the Working Women’s Hostel, AB Mission Compound, Tura organised by the P. A. Sangma Foundation (PASF) in which the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A Sangma, Education Minister, Rakkam A Sangma, and other dignitaries were present.

In his address, the Speaker emphasized the importance of strengthening educational infrastructure in the Garo Hills region. On the other hand, the Minister in-charge Education, said the government is committed to strengthening the education system of the state.

He added that to strengthen the education system there has to be an equal effort from all stakeholders that includes the government, teachers and parents so that the students’ future could be made brighter.

The event also witnessed a musical performance by the students of the PA Sangma Foundation – Abong Noga college.

The People’s College grant-in-aid scheme has been introduced by the MDA government to promote quality higher education for the benefit of socially and economically marginalized sections of society (including individuals with disabilities) and to undertake necessary steps to facilitate increased access to quality higher education. The beneficiary college gets some government sanctioned posts for both the teaching and the non-teaching staff, for which the Government of Meghalaya provides the payment of salary portion (including allowances).
