Earlier, three individuals were arrested on October 25, 2024 from different areas. In the Namtola area of Charaideo district, Military Intelligence, Assam Police, and 23 Assam Rifles/HQ 73 Mountain Brigade apprehended one Prem Newar, a prominent linkman with reported affiliations to ULFA(I) Commander Ganesh Lahon. Simultaneously, a second raid was conducted in Chabua in Dibrugarh district, resulting in the apprehension of two ULFA(I) operatives- Ujjal Gohain (alias Socrates), son of late Hem Chandra Gohain, and Shashanka Rajkhowa, son of Keshab Rajkhowa. Both were identified as key OGWs for the insurgent group.

These arrests add to total of ten individuals taken into custody as part of this operation in the last one week.

Security forces have identified these individuals as key facilitators in the insurgent activities spearheaded by ULFA (I) Commanders self-styled Maj Gen Arunodoy Dahotia and self-styled Brig Ganesh Lahon.

Sources informed that the joint operation is ongoing, as security forces aim to dismantle remaining entire network connected to ULFA (I) in the region.

The ongoing operation is seen as critical as security agencies look to counter threats of IED attacks during Republic Day 2025 and ensure stability in Assam.
