10-year Donald from Maweit selected to train in Minerva Academy

Nongstoin, Sept 18: A 10-year old boy from the remote village of Risiang in Maweit, West Khasi Hills, has fought against all odds to be selected to undergo training at one of the best academies in the country, the Minerva Academy Football Club in Punjab

Born to Franco Puweiñ and Daplin Marthong, 10 year old Donald Marthong is the youngest of seven siblings and is currently studying in Class V at a local school.

Besides excelling in football, Donald is a standout in marathon competitions, consistently winning at first position in the under-14 category.

His talents extend beyond sports, as he is also skilled in dancing, singing, playing the birïa, and beatboxing.

His father, Franco, expressed pride in his son’s natural abilities, noting that while many have praised Donald’s talents, his role has always been to offer encouragement and support.

Now, this promising young boy has been given a remarkable opportunity to train with a prestigious football academy in the country.

This is the second time that Minerva has selected young budding footballers from Meghalaya to undergo in their facility. The first was 7-year-old Samborlang Rynjah. Rynjah has become an internet sensation who has been recognised worldwide for his exceptional goalkeeping skills, and was even noticed by World Cup winner- Emi Martinez.
