Guwahati, Feb 23: Taking time off from their regular schedules, media persons participated in the 11th edition of the TG Baruah Memorial T20 Media Tournament, 2024, held at Guwahati.
The T20 Cricket Tournament, held at Guwahati’s Historic Judges Field, from February 21 to February 28.
This year’s edition saw participation from 11 teams comprising both senior and junior journalists from various media houses in Guwahati, including those from outstation media houses.
An outstation TV journalist, Anirudha Bjakat, commented, “We have a very tight schedule; whenever there is breaking news, we need to rush from one place to another for coverage. Despite the challenges, we have collectively put in the effort. From 6 am practice sessions to covering the Assembly and other news, participating in the tournament collectively as a team gives us a sense of belonging. We, media persons, live as a family.”
Another senior journalist, Abhijeet Deb, highlighted the importance of physical exercise in sports, saying, “Cricket and sports require physical activity, and it is good to engage in such activities. Outstation correspondents have decided to carry this forward, and young journalists should participate in sports to open their minds and hearts.”
Guwahati Press Club president, Susmita Goswami, emphasized the significance of sports for journalists, stating, “As journalists, we are always busy with our duties, but when we get the opportunity to participate in a media tournament, it is a positive thing. Sports not only promote physical and mental fitness but also provide an environment for friendly interactions among us. Cricket and sports are crucial for media persons.”
