Tura, Feb 23: The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima or A. A•CHIK organization in Garo Hills has moved the Conrad K Sangma government in the state calling for the creation of Kharkutta community and development block area into a full-fledged civil sub-division.
Submitting a memorandum to the chief minister’s office via email, A•CHIK leaders pointed out the growing population in the Kharkutta block area which is part of North Garo Hills district.
It may be mentioned that prior to North Garo Hills district creation, Resubelpara was a civil sub-division.
Kharkutta is represented by Rupert Momin of the NPP in the state legislature.
The organization stated that despite the growing population there are deficiencies in infrastructure development and socio-economic deprivation by the lack of employment opportunities, inadequate education facilities and limited access to financial services.
“Marginalized communities, including women, minorities, and indigenous groups bear the brunt of these disparities, further widening the socio-economic divide,” stated A.chik co-chairman Ro’rok R Marak in the memo.
The limited resources and administrative capacity constrain the ability of C&RD blocks to address emerging challenges and meet the evolving needs of the populace, claimed A.chik as it believed that an upgrade would lead to dedicated administrative structures and regulatory mechanisms ensuring transparency, accountability and efficient service delivery for the people.
