Shillong, April 29: Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history by becoming the youngest player in IPL history to score a century. At just 14 years and 32 days old, he hit a hundred against Gujarat Titans.
Notably, it was also the second fastest century by a young player in IPL history and the fastest by an Indian.

Vaibhav comes from Motipur, a small village near Samastipur in Bihar. His cricket journey began early, by the age of eight, he was already doing well in district-level tournaments.
His father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, noticed his talent and decided to support him in every way he could. A farmer with limited means, Sanjiv even sold part of his farmland to pay for Vaibhav’s coaching, travel, and equipment.

“Cricket is an expensive sport,” Sanjiv said. “I had no option but to sell my land to make his dream come true.”
Vaibhav’s hard work started paying off when he was picked by Rajasthan Royals at the age of 13 in the IPL 2025 auction. He became the youngest player to get an IPL contract, and the team bought him for INR 1.1 crore.

He made his debut earlier this season against Lucknow Super Giants, filling in after an injury to RR captain Sanju Samson. Vaibhav made an immediate impact by hitting a six off the very first ball he faced and went on to score 34 runs from just 20 balls.
Before joining the IPL, Vaibhav had already played for India Under-19. He scored a 58-ball century against Australia Under-19 and helped his team reach the final of the 2024 ACC U-19 Asia Cup, scoring 176 runs in the tournament. He also made headlines in Bihar by scoring an unbeaten 332 in the Randhir Verma Under-19 tournament.
