Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the event virtually and distributed over 51,000 appointment letters to successful candidates in various government departments and organizations at the Rozgar Mela on Saturday, held at 47 locations across the country. During the ceremony, candidates selected from various departments, including Income Tax, Department of Posts, Geological Survey of India (GSI), and Indian Railways, were handed over their appointment letters. PM Modi lauded the unprecedented opportunities for youth, citing record-breaking production and export in industries like automobiles and footwear as key contributors to employment generation.

Present in Shillong at the handing over ceremony was Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, who emphasized the transformative impact of the initiative. “These are not just jobs; they are gateways to building the nation. In the last one and a half years, we have conducted recruitment drives with complete fairness, reflecting the motto of our government,” the Minister said.

“It is more than just a letter. Your journey ahead is not merely about building a career but contributing to India’s growth story. Every citizen you serve shapes India’s tomorrow. Let us move forward together towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, driven by the spirit of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” he further added.

He also highlighted the stark contrast in employment opportunities created under the current administration compared to the UPA government from 2004 to 2014. “During the UPA government, over 7 lakh government jobs were provided. In the last 10 years under the leadership of our visionary Prime Minister, more than 10 lakh and 96,000 government jobs have been created and distributed fairly,” he said.

Margherita also highlighted the role of flagship schemes like the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) and the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) in fostering entrepreneurship alongside employment. These initiatives have not only created jobs but also empowered individuals to contribute to the nation’s economic growth.

The Rozgar Mela, a nationwide campaign, aims to connect youth with various central government departments, fostering both employment and self-employment opportunities.
